FGCU has named Lois Knox as the new director for the Florida Small Business Development Center. She will start July 1, 2015. Knox currently serves as assistant director for business and finance for the Florida SBDC Network State Office. She assists in the financial management and operational oversight of the network’s more than 40 centers across the state. Prior to serving as assistant director, she served as financial manager for the Florida SBDC Network State Office, and as grant manager at the University of West Florida.
Prior to her positions with the Florida SBDC Network and University of West Florida, Knox worked with small businesses in Ohio, Missouri, Georgia and Florida for over 20 years in helping to set up financial reporting systems.
Knox has a master’s degree from the University of Akron and a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University. She received the Florida SBDC Network State Office Employee of the Year Award in 2013.
Knox was selected to serve as director following the retirement of Dan Regelski, who pioneered the development of the SBDC at FGCU almost 20 years ago.
Regelski was instrumental in the planning, design and implementation of countless programs and initiatives to support small businesses in Southwest Florida. His leadership efforts led to the FSBDC being selected as the top such center in the state.
The FSBDC at FGCU offers one-on-one, confidential, no-cost consulting and low-cost workshops for businesses throughout Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties. It is designated by the state as Florida’s principal provider of business assistance.
