Audience: Existing businesses (owner or manager)
MBE Certified Businesses are the first tier of businesses referred to state agencies seeking supplier diversity. Additionally, certified business are listed in the state Certified Business Enterprise Vendor Directory and can participate in the Vendor Spotlight Program. Other benefits include special emails with information including contract opportunities, networking, and technical assistance training.
Section 3 provides preference for contracting opportunities to businesses owned by or who employ low and very low income individuals. The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers goal is that 30% of all new jobs created are a result of federally funded projects awarded to Section 3 residents (many of which reside in public housing or receive subsidized housing assistance).
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) provides assistance to Disadvan-taged Business Enterprises (DBEs) seeking or conducting business with the depart-ment. This assistance is designed to help these businesses grow, become more self sufficient, and successfully compete for contracts with the department. These sup-portive services programs are designed to increase the number and capacity of DBEs participating in highway construction.
