A Florida SBDC Success Story: The Art of Business ARCEO, Naples Fla.
Thierry and Patou Desormeaux own ARCEO Executive Center in Naples, Florida. This dynamic husband and wife duo have been entrepreneurs for most of their lives, running two businesses for over 40 years. Desormeaux’s are originally from France, they moved to Miami in 2000 and more recently to Naples. Thierry owns a civil engineering firm, with locations in Haiti and Europe. Patou is a renowned international artist who owns Patou Fine Art with prior exhibits in Fort Lauderdale’s Design Center of the Americas and the Dominican Republic’s Casa de Campo, and her current venture in Naples at ARCEO.
Thierry’s travels with his business helped him recognize a need in for an executive center which would offer business space and services to entrepreneurs. The difference between ARCEO and other workspaces, is their unique emphasis on international business owners who only occasionally visit the area yet are in need of a full-service office space throughout the year. However, the Desormeaux’s wanted to go beyond a physical space for entrepreneurs and establish an incubator to help the businesses thrive.
When the Desormeaux’s moved to the United States, they found that the process for applying for visas and establishing a business was difficult. Thierry realized he could help foreigners looking to establish a business in the U.S. and local businesses looking to hire foreigners. His concept of the combined incubator includes connecting entrepreneurs to the Florida SBDC (FSBDC) at Florida Gulf Coast University while also providing them office space or full service offices to help them operate their business. The concept was like nothing offered in France and the relationship built with the FSBDC was a natural fit for their international clients seeking business assistance.
The benefit of the combined executive suites and incubator program of ARCEO gave Patou a space to showcase her art, hold client meetings, and work on her art, which includes oil on canvas and custom made furniture. With the addition of Patou’s art to the executive suites, Thierry says the tenants and visitors have commented, “it is a different and unique experience compared to other executive suites.”
For both of their business, Thierry and Patou, work with multiple consultants at the FSBDC, including Cathy Haworth and Marc Farron. They have received assistance with finance, loans, contracts, and web site design. Patou says, “it has been a great experience.” The FSBDC continues to work with the Desormeaux’s and according to Thierry, “the sky is the limit when you have their business assistance.”
Today, ARCEO is in full operations and the dedication and determination of the Desormeaux’s to each of their businesses and each other, is a formula for success and inspiration to other entrepreneurs for years to come.
