Pole & Aerial Fitness of SWFL
Michelle O’Neill is one of the co-owners of Pole and Aerial Fitness of Southwest Florida and their studio is a safe place for people of all ages and sizes to come and move their bodies in different ways to get stronger and more flexible. Since 2010, Pole and Aerial Fitness has specialized in dance and fitness instruction.
“Our motto is Play Your Way Fit. We want people to literally feel like they are having a playful experience kind of like being a kid at a jungle gym where you’re playing and experimenting and learning all at the same time,” says Michelle.
They sought out the Small Business Development Center because they did not feel confident in their marketing skills to effectively promote the business. SBDC consultant educated the business on marketing techniques such as Google My Business, content curation and planning, and getting reviews on yelp and google.
During the COVID-19 shutdown, they utilized the SBDC to obtain EIDL Grant Loan to help keep the doors open.
“Michelle and I are both extremely grateful for the opportunity we had to sit with a consultant and work with her on a monthly basis. Meeting with a consultant monthly allowed us an opportunity to check in with them and go over some ideas, questions, and concerns that we had. We also had a chance to talk and discuss new and trending ideas that were coming out and she kept us accountable for our work. Every month we were given a list of things to do and we implemented them. We are truly grateful for the experience,” says Melanie.
Since working with SBDC, they have increased their sales, survived covid-19 pandemic after being shut down for two months, increased interactions on Facebook, and cut back on marketing costs.
The growth plan for the future is to reach capacity and open a second location in SWFL. They‘ve even started to do some preliminary research on opening a second location in Southwest Florida.
“I would say 100% reach out to the SBDC and get a consultant for whatever your area of concern or challenge is, because in the long run you will save a lot of money from it!” says Melanie.
