Crystal Bonora, Owner of Waggles, originally sought service from the Small Business Development Center because she was new to Port Charlotte, FL. She joined the Port Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and that’s where she found the SBDC.
The SBDC worked closely with Crystal to lay a foundation to further develop its marketing.
“I had no idea how to use Facebook. I had no idea how to use Google. The Small Business Development Center provided me with just a simple foundation and from there we have skyrocketed in reviews and we have skyrocketed in marketing.” says Bonora.
Sunbiz newspaper reached out to Waggles and had written an article on their business. “I never realized the importance of reviews until I owned a business. What’s one of the first things that people look at when they look at a place, where they want to shop or eat, they look at reviews. So anytime that a person comes in whether they purchase a puppy or not and they give us a compliment as to how clean our facility is and how friendly our staff is. I say hey, on that note would you mind giving us a five-star review and there it is!” says Bonora.
The SBDC also aided Waggles in its hiring process. They started with one employee and expanded to six at the beginning of March. They have homed over 120 puppies in over 5 months. Their goal is to build more stores throughout SWFL.
“What I would say to an entrepreneur who is looking to work with the Florida SBDC, is to utilize them as much as you possibly can. They are such a great help and they have helped us along our journey. They will help you along your journey as well whether you know a lot or you know a little they are able to start a foundation for you and you can build from there or you can keep seeking help because that’s what they’re there for you, ” says Bonora.
